SMATCO Combination Drum/Traction Drum Winches are designed to provide anchor handling and towing capabilities to offshore operators working in all water depths, including ultra deep waters worldwide. These "Mega" winches can be powered either electrically or by low-pressure hydraulic motor systems. These drive options allow the operator to choose the operational speed/pull required for teh specific application.
The SMATCO combination winches are designed with a single drum winch and a traction drum winch in a common frame. The traction drum winch is capable of providing a continuous line pull over the entire length of wirerope. The wirerope from the traction drum leads to a storage winch located where convenient in the AHTS vessel. Depending upon drive options chosen, the combination winch will be furnished with water-cooled disc brake/Parmac brake for dynamic braking or dynamic braking through the low-pressure hydraulic system.
