The Oil States Riser Turret Mooring Connector is a quick release connector for FPSOs. The system utilizes proven Oil States Structural Collet Connector technology to maintain the connection between the bow extension and the riser column.
In the event that a hurricane, typhoon or ice pack threatens the facility, the FPSO can quickly disengage from the site and move to safety. Re-establishing the connection upon return is a simple process since the rise column remains on-site. Models are also available for internal mooring with a pull-through mooring buoy.
The connector uses a female to male hub connection which has been used in Oil States' Collet Connectors for decades. This technology is a standard in deepwater pipeline repair systems.

The design incorporates redundant hydraulic cylinders to engage and disengage the Drive Ring and Reaction Plate. BEAR-LOCS® provide a secondary lock with a total locking force of 250,000 lbf (1112 kN). Proximity sensors indicate when the hubs are close enough for the connector to be closed and when full closure is complete.
The hydraulic header is rigid 3.00 inch (76.2 mm) Sch. 80 circular piping stacked vertically with an inlet block and Tech-Lok connectors. The header to cylinder piping is 1.50 inch-Sch. 80 rigid pipe but can have flexible hose substituted to isolate connector to header movement. The system is designed to minimize the footprint while still maintaining ease of installation and maintenance.
Performance Maximum specified loads: • 2.8 million lbf (12,500 kN) axial • 9.5 million ft-lbf (12,900 N-m) bending • Full release in 2.5 seconds while under maximum axial & bending load • All design analysis & testing verified & certified by Lloyd's Register • Capable of 11.2 million lbf pure axial load • 20-year design life
