Deepwater, Diverless Pipeline Repair The Dual Grip & Seal Connector Repair System is a hydraulic grip and seal style pipeline repair system for deep water applications. Connections are made efficiently and reliably with permanent, worry-free sealing. The Dual Grip & Seal Repair System utilizes four key components to reduce costs across the scope of the project.
An Innovative Alignment Base The system's unique modular alignment base is the supporting interface point between the jumper and the parent pipeline. The base has a slot which allows the unit to be set down directly over the parent pipe. The pipe is then raised with a lift frame for alignment with the grip and seal jumper section or spool piece.
Dual Grip & Seal
Once the parent pipe is raised, support beams are rotated into place and the outer clamps are activated. This assures that the turn-table on the base self-aligns with the jumper spool piece. Then the inner clamps are activated to finalize the alignment process.
Horizontal Jumper Deployment The spool piece is lowered onto the guide posts of the alignment base. This serves as the first land, fixed reference point. The fixed reference point is necessary since the jumper will have two misalignment flanges (MAF). The MAF's allow for rotational misalignment up to 20o and also allows for transverse and vertical alignment issues.
After clearing the guide posts, the jumper will come to rest in specially designed saddles. These saddles act as cushions and guides for alignment of the jumper to the parent pipe. Wedges hold the jumper firmly in the saddle.
Final rotation and alignment is manipulated by the ROV. The grip and seal connectors can now be extended onto the bare, parent pipe. The grips are engaged and the seals pressurized. Then lastly the seals are tested.
Overall The overall system uses a component-based, modular design to reduce costs from manufacture through to final installation. The system is capable of accommodating varying pipeline sizes from 12 inches to 24 inches and pressures with only minor modifications. The unique turntable on the base unit allows up to 25 inches of misalignment. Simple ROV interface and proven connector technology ensures smooth, reliable repairs.
