The Diver-Assist HydroClamp™ is a split-sleeve clamp used for making permanent pipeline repairs. The clamp halves are joined by studs and nuts to form a high-integrity pressure vessel around the pipe.
HydroClamp™ fittings are available in both non-structural and full-structural configurations. The full structural version is used for applications where the structural integrity of the pipe is questionable; for example, a circumferential crack in a girth weld. The full structural version incorporates tension bowls and slips that grip the pipe at both ends of the clamp, transferring thrust loads through the clamp body.
After the HydroClamp™ is guided into place, hydraulic cylinders apply a closing force. Then the main studs and nuts are tightened to make up the clamp and energize the longitudinal face seals. Finally, packing flange fasteners on either end are tightened, actuating the circumferential seals.
The HydroClamp™ sealing mechanism consists of molded elastomer face seals between the mating HydroClamp™ halves and molded circumferential packers around the pipe. the face seals are compressed when the clamp halves are closed and the studs are loaded; metal-to-metal contact of the faces prevents extrusion of the face seals. The circumferential packers are compressed by an axial load imparted when the diver tightens the packing flange studs at either end, after the HydroClamp™ body halves are joined and the main studs and nuts have been tightened. Metal packing guards encapsulate the packers to prevent seal extrusion.
The HydroClamp™ can also be provided with dual face seals and dual circumferential packers to allow hydrostatic testing between the seals after installation in the event that the damaged pipe wall is penetrated or to avoid further damage to pipe from annulus testing. |

The HydroClamp™ body includes pressure fittings that serve as test ports or vent ports. When a leaking gas pipeline is being repaired, the fittings can be opened so that the HydroClamp™ can be installed and pre-tightened without internal pressure build-up. Second, when repairing a dented or buckled pipeline that is not leaking, the fittings can be used to fill and vent ports when the annular space between the clamp and pipe is grouted.
HydroClamp™ fittings range in size and pressure rating from 3-inch API/10,000 to 48-inch/ANSI 600. Standard sealing length is one pipe diameter; other sealing lengths can be designed.
HydroClamp™ fittings meet the requirements of API 6H and are designed in accordance with ASME Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 2, unless otherwise specified. Anodes for cathodic protection are designed for a 20-year service life in accordance with DNV Rules for Submarine Pipeline Systems. HydroClamp fittings can also be supplied to meet the requirements of other recognized design codes.
