ELASTA-FLEX® Clutches and Brakes are the result of over sixty years of Oil States' uncompromising commitment to quality products and service.

Available in CB, VC, and Marine Clutch styles, ELASTA-FLEX ® is clearly becoming a major choice for power transmission in a wide variety of applications.

The ELASTA-FLEX® drum clutch elements manufactured by Oil States Industries, Inc., are designed for a multitude of severe clutch and brake applications. The elements are designed around the basic principle of an expanding tube which, when inflated, forces a friction producing member into radially engagement with a rotatable drum. The friction member is comprised of a friction material of known frictional coefficient and a load transfer mounting that is called the Friction Shoe Assembly (FSA).

The FSA is designed to fit specific element configurations and have materials with varying frictional characteristics depending on the type of usage, the rate of heat dissipation, and the torque load required by the application.


Our line of pneumatic/hydraulic actuated clutches and brakes includes constricting (tube expands inward) as well as expanding (tube expands outward) type designs. As shown in Figure 1.1, we offer five basic configurations. All are designed around a fabric reinforced inflatable elastomeric tube for clutch and brake elements. Variations in configuration and load path arrangement provide the versatility needed for differing applications. A general list of typical applications for the various types of clutches and brakes is provided in the table below.
