Arlington, Texas, September 8, 2009: Oil States Industries subsidiary Oil States MCS Ltd. today announced the successful leveling and swaging of Cirrus Energy's M7 Monotower. The tower's KCI-designed jacket and topsides were recently installed offshore Netherlands by Seaway Heavy Lifting using HLV Stanislav Yudin.
Oil States MCS was contracted to perform the structure leveling and make the pile connections using Latch-Lok® level ling and Hydra-Lok pile swaging systems, respectively. A key installation requirement was that the Jacket be leveled to within ±0.5 degree from vertical in pitch and roll.
To make the leveling and swaging operations quicker and more efficient, the two tools were combined into a single lift by stabbing the Hydra-Lok® tool through the Latch-Lok tool. On deployment, the Hydra-Lok® tool was stabbed into the pile, which guides the leveling tool over/onto the pile top. The leveling tool was then extended to latch onto a mating ring attached to the top of the pile guide. The Latch-Lok tool then lifted the structure in a controlled manner to the correct elevation, determined by instruments attached to the structure. On achieving the correct elevation, the pile was connected using the swaging tool.
The result was the Jacket/Monotower was leveled to 0.1° in both pitch and roll in a total deck-to-deck time of 12 hours. The structure was immediately ready for setting of the topsides.
