One of the newer SCR FlexJoint^® installation accessories is the Shroud. The application of this device evolved as a means to allow smooth movement of the SCR FlexJoint^® across the rollers on the fantail of an S-Lay riser installation vessel.

Revelations regarding the moment applied to the SCR FlexJoint^® as it passes off the end of the vessel's stinger have renewed interest in the shroud concept and how proper protection can be applied. Considerations for the shroud design continue to evolve as studies of the installation process progress.

Oil States has provided this device on past projects and will work with its customers to provide a shroud design that provides suitable protection for the SCR FlexJoint^® while meeting the demands of the riser installation process.

Oil States will provide a project specific document that delineates the recommended tools and procedures for field removal of the shroud.
