The VC type element is a constricting configuration wherein the fabric reinforced elastomeric tube is separable from the rim. The tube is constrained on either side by side plates which also provide pinned restraint points for the Friction Shoe Assemblies (FSA). The torque transmitted by the friction shoes is transmitted into the side plates and then into the rim. The friction shoes are ventilated in order to provide rapid heat dissipation. These units are best suited for high torque, low speed applications.
The separable tube feature allows actuating tube removal for inspection and/or replacement. The VC clutch design is based on transmitting the retarding force from the FSA surface to the support rim without transferring the retarding force through the inflatable tube. This provides for higher torque capacity.
Principally designed for higher torque applications, the ELASTA-FLEX VC is the answer to the demands for a durable, high thermal capacity drum clutch or brake. Every bit as versatile as the CB, the ELASTA-FLEX VC provides enhanced heat dissipation. The unique design of the ventilated friction shoe assembly allows for a high volume of air flow across the entire shoe length, thereby reducing heat, preserving the elastomeric actuator tube and extending overall clutch life. Virtually all components used in the VC design are replaceable.
